This is a test of the footnotes.¹ And now I’m going to test more footnotes.². Looking pretty, pretty, pretty good.

I’ve never blogged before but I’ve read more blog posts than I’d care to admit. I know what I like and what I don’t like about the current state of the blogosphere. For one, I dislike repetition. Too many articles that rehash the same bit of technology news or one article that rehashes the analysis of another. I spend far too much time wading through ‘parallel’ articles to get at one nugget of new information. There are some ideas out there on how to present developing stories (StoryStream from the Verge team and Storify come to mind), but none present me with my new nuggets of information. On this blog, if I write about issues in popular technology, I’d like to present some original thoughts. That’s what I aim to do.

On to number two. The current state of the blogosphere is a deluge, an absolute flood of information about a select number of stories relevant to that day. One could claim that this is the nature of the news cycle, stories become instantly relevant, and die in relevancy at an exponential rate until this is dug up at a later date. There is no shortage of time-sensitive blogging out there, so I don’t care to rehash that either. I’d rather take a page from Marco Arment, who has set out to blog about things that stand the test of time. See for example his reviews of LED Light Bulbs or Bathroom Fans. This is what I like to read, and I am going to add my touch to it.

So to sum up: write about what others aren’t saying, and write about things that will still matter tomorrow. Let’s see if I can stick to that.
